Here's a blast from the past. One more piece out of our case of older, mostly pawn, items we've been 'saving back.' Since the Sleeping Beauty Mine closed in 2012, prices of that turquoise have shot-up and imitations have flourished (Sleeping Beauty turquoise was the most imitated turquoise even before the mine closed. Lots of people today are wearing around big nugget necklaces made of dyed howlite, thinking it is Sleeping Beauty because an unscrupulous dealer told them so. We have one of those nuggets around somewhere sawed in half—it's white on the inside! I'll photograph it and add it to this post's pics later today. Caveat Emptor. Any-way, this 'ol gal is a size 8.5. It's almost 1.5-inches long and 1 and 1/8th-inches wide with lots of expert silversmithing. It weighs a respectable 14.6-grams, or .51-ounces.
