About High Plains Jewelry

"High Plains Jewelry" is the web presence of High Plains Drifter, Indian Trader, two-time winner of the "Best Display" award at the New Mexico State Fair (1991 and 1992), and "Best of Show" at the Chisholm Trail Roundup/Comanche Pow-Wow at the Fort Worth Stockyards (1994).  High Plains Jewelry displayed many years at Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo and the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta (now "Kodak Balloon Fiesta) --and other events nationwide.

The Drifter's clients span several continents, and range from Hollywood types to working men and women everywhere who share an appreciation of this most-American of art forms.  Since 1976, he's traded with Native Americans in New Mexico and Arizona.  He's  worked as a journalist and an attorney as well.  But the allure of the American West and its native people continue to captivate the Drifter—drawing him back there time-after-time.

Now he lives the good life, roaming back roads of Navajoland and Zuni with his furry companion—continuing a trading tradition dating back to the exploration of the West.  The Drifter is old school, preferring classic, traditional Native-American jewelry—made sturdy and with a substantial "feel." Trendy, 'bling' jewelry won't do.   If Native Americans don't wear it, we don't trade in it.

Every item is "hand-picked" by the Drifter—enabling us to offer unique and prized one-of-a-kind pieces.  We don't buy things by phone or internet.
But prized, authentic southwestern Native American jewelry  is quickly disappearing—into collections both here and abroad, and thankfully, now being kept by Native Americans themselves as well.  Unfortunately, quality items are getting scarce.  And sadly, efforts to duplicate this truly American art form offshore are increasingl—despite efforts by the F.B.I. and several states' attorney generals.  Add to that the past effects of Covid on the Navajo Reservation, and the result is less and less availability of quality, traditional Native American jewelry--and the dreaded emergence of lesser quality, more quickly-made tourist-quality offerings which we simply refuse to buy or sell.
"High Plains Jewelry" is the David of the many Goliath's one finds on the world-wide web.  Our meticulous selection is ever-changing.
The discerning collector will be pleased.
